- A little disappointed
This is the first Dobyns rod I have purchased. I appreciate the sale price from ALFC. After unpacking from the excellent shipping container, I installed my reel. When turning the hood screw over the reel foot, it would not fully tighten. After further inspection, I found the cosmetic sleeve over the hood screw was not bonded. Not a problem to repair with super glue, but I was surprised to see this workmanship from a rod of this quality level. Also on my first outing, I found the rod tip to be a bit too soft. This rod will be fine when using crankbaits, but I am a little disappointed since it was recommended for soft plastics & jigs.
- A little disappointed
I really appreciate the sale pricing on this rod from ALFC. I am please with the looks of the rod & line guides.
After unpacking the rod from excellent shipping container, I installed my reel. When turning the hood screw over reel foot I was surprised that it would not fully tighten. The cosmetic sleeve over the screw was not securely bonded. This allowed the sleeve to slip on the screw as it were stripped. After further inspection, I could see that the sleeve glue did not bond. Not a problem to repair with super glue, but a little disappointing for a new rod of this quality level.
During my first outing with the rod, I felt the rod tip is a little soft compared to other similar rods I have. Really nice for crankbaits, but not what I was expecting for a rod advertised for soft plastics & jigs.
- Love this rod
Length and back bone give rod great hooking power for a spinning rod. Paired with a Shimano Stradic 3000FJ reel for a light weight. powerful combo which can cast a mile. Using for crank baits, tubes, wacky worming. This is my second Dobyns rod. They are great rods. Had a minor issue with shipping and American Legacy customer service was awesome.
- good value for the Legacy pricing
I couldn't wait until next spring to get my line in the water with the Dobyn's rod. I took it out of the excellent packaging from American Legacy and headed to the lake. After getting use to the additional length from my usual seven foot rods, I found that I could cast and retrieve from areas unknown to me before. Everyone down at the lake told me I would enjoy the Dobyn's. Those guys were correct. Even the look gives you confidence in knowing that your catch is in your hand. Enjoy!
The only point I would make is from the picture that American Legacy shows for this rod. The rod comes with a full handle and not the split bass type you see. A. L. shows the split in the picture. I think I understand the full cork handle because of the extra length. Enjoy!
